IL SALUMAIO: Reviews & Ratings
Tour guide recommended I tried week and salumaio Both are good sandwiches Week with truffle honey kinda sweet Salumaio is heavy and salty I like week Size is about 6 inches Can ask to cut in half
Simple, fresh, no complications Salumeria. Delicious sandwiches menu but you are free to craft your own. Artisan Pizza was delightful as well.
I have mixed feelings about the place! I had a very lovely sandwich and it was way too much for 1 person so my boyfriend helpt me eat the other half. However a few hours later I became very sick because there was so much oil in the chicken. My boyfriend was not sick so u think my stomach is just not used to all the oil. So overal lovely place not expensive for what you get, but maybe keep in mind in you have an easy upset stomach don’t go for a sandwich with a lot of oil.
Popped in by chance for a snack, very happy with the offers. Menu offers various sandwiches and breads, some vegetarian options as well. Everything is made in front of you from the available meats and cheeses. very reasonable priced. Did drop a point for atmosphere because of the limited seating but that's subjective and could have gone either way.
Amazing sandwiches, great if your are traveling on a budget and you want to have a quick lunch. I recommend the one that has artichokes and sun dried tomatoes.
I got here by chance, and because it wasn't crowded. It is a very small place, a couple barrel as tables on the inside, the ambiance is quite meh... just a place to grab a quick snack on the go. HOWEVER... OMG. I mean, yeah, carbonara had been great but this not-so-small piece of heaven between 2 flat breads... WHAT?! Forget about L'Antico vinaio... THIS is the place where you're gonna want to get your sandwich from. It was amazing! They will prepare it right in front of you and it is so fresh and delicious and well balanced. You can even get a small Prosecco bottle with you. I had that gastronomic big "O" we foodies often look for. I would've payed more for it, definitely (okay, maybe only because it was quite inexpensive). So, yeah. Give it a chance, trust me!
I tried the sandwiches and some pizza. The sandwich was okay, I got the Norma one. It has some aubergines and tomatoes and it made the bread very soggy. The place can get very busy and sometimes there is a pigeon sneaking inside. The pizza was a bit older and drier but the taste was very nice. I got Peroni beer too.
Delicious tasty plate nearby Spanish steps. Fresh and local ingredients with perfect homemade focaccia and red wine was absolutely amazing. Very kind stuff. Highly recommend to everyone.

Nestled on V. della Croce in the heart of Rome, IL SALUMAIO stands out as a genuine salumeria that celebrates the art of simple, fresh Italian sandwiches. This spot perfectly blends tradition with quality, offering a menu filled with artisan-crafted sandwiches and breads, where every creation is made right before your eyes from carefully selected meats and cheeses.
What truly caught my attention was the thoughtful balance IL SALUMAIO strikes between classic flavors and innovative touches. The “Week” sandwich, with its subtle sweetness from truffle honey, offers a delicate contrast to the more robust and salty “Salumaio” sandwich. Both showcase a mastery of flavor layering and ingredient quality that makes each bite memorable. For those who want to explore beyond the menu, there’s the freedom to customize your own sandwich, emphasizing the salumeria’s dedication to fresh, personalized dining.
Not to be overlooked is the artisan pizza, praised for its delightful crust and fresh toppings, making IL SALUMAIO a versatile stop for quick yet indulgent meals. Portion sizes are generous—perfect for sharing or a hearty solo lunch—and the pricing remains reasonable, especially for travelers seeking authentic Roman flavors on a budget.
While the atmosphere might feel a bit limited due to seating size, this only adds to IL SALUMAIO’s authentic, no-frills charm. The focus here remains steadfastly on delivering quality ingredients and honest flavors. Just a note of caution for those sensitive to rich, oily foods, as some sandwiches can be quite indulgent. Overall, IL SALUMAIO is a gem for anyone craving fresh, handcrafted Italian sandwiches that capture the essence of Roman street food culture.
